-ISM Triptych

With the aim of highlighting the creative process rather than the final image, we were tasked with working in layers based on a word ending in “-ism.”

Impressionism is extreme receptivity to sensations. It is a subjective and instantaneous impression of a scene—pure sensation and fleeting emotion—rather than objective reality. Impressionism speaks to the viewer’s senses and emotions by immersing them in a vibrant and subjective perception of reality.

To represent this, we experimented with the treatment of a black-and-white image, then explored typography as a visual medium, and finally incorporated the manual gesture into this graphic approach.
